Expert addresses strategic marketing students on sustainability

The Age recently reported on how the global climate crisis will fundamentally reshape organisations and management and create new career paths, even new subject choices at university.

MBA students in Strategic Marketing were recently addressed by Clinton Squires, General Manager, InterfaceFLOR, (Australia and New Zeeland) on the essential presence of sustainability in Marketing Strategies.

The Interface story is a great case study for academics and managers who want to understand the process of aligning environmental sustainability with business strategies.

Professor Steve Worthington, from the Department of Marketing said he wanted to include something that alerted the students to the sustainability challenges that they all face in whatever organisation they work for.

He sees it as essential that students understand how an organisation would do a strategic market analysis, following this through with implementation, all within a sustainability agenda.

Clearly with emissions trading and rising costs of limited resources (particularly oil) business and marketing professionals will need to understand the implications of these emerging markets. Where better to gain insight than from one of industry’s first and successful movers in the area.
