Invite for nominations for Dean's Award

The faculty is committed to nurturing and supporting early career researchers. The aim of the Deans Award for Excellence in Research by an Early Career Researcher is to promote, recognise and reward excellence in research by staff members who are in the early stage of their research careers.

“The award is intended for individuals whose achievements, stemming from their work completed over the past five years, are outstanding and place them significantly ahead of their peers. It is also hoped that the individuals receiving the award would proceed to complete further research of excellent quality and high impact,” Professor Kim Langfield-Smith, Deputy Dean Research, explained.

Two awards will be made, one in each of the following two divisions:

Division A: an early career researcher holding a PhD, or equivalent research doctorate, awarded within five years of the closing date of applications.

Division B: an early career researcher holding a PhD, or equivalent research doctorate, awarded within ten years of the closing date of applications.

The value of the award is $10,000 which may be taken as either a 12 month research grant (established in the cost centre of the awardees’ academic unit) or, subject to HR approval, a $5000 cash payment plus a $5000 research grant.

Applicants must hold a continuing or fixed-term academic appointment in the faculty and must satisfy the definition of an early career researcher (see above), i.e. hold a PhD, or equivalent research doctorate, awarded within ten years of the closing date of applications. Awardees are not eligible for nomination in subsequent years.

Dean's Award recipients will also be in the running for the 2008 Vice-Chancellors Award for Excellence in Research by an Early Career Researcher.
