New Head for Department of Management
Professor Ian McLoughlin is the new head for the Department of Management. Ian had a distinguished career in the UK as Head and Director of Newcastle University Business School since 2002. Before that he was head of Newcastle School of Management from 2000-2002 and head of the Department of Management at Brunel University in the 1990s.
From 2003 to 2006 he was Founding Director of Newcastle University's research Centre for Social and Business Informatics where he raised significant external funds for the Centre’s research on electronic government. He has seven books and 35 journal articles and book chapters among his publications – which include pioneering work on the emergence of non-union employment relations in the UK. He is currently writing a new book on ‘E-Government @ Work’ to be published by Oxford University Press.
He served as a member of the ESRC Commissioning Panel for Science and Society
Research Programme, and the ESRC Evolution of Business Knowledge Advisory Board.
He has also been an elected member of the UK Association of Business Schools
Executive Committee and of the Council of the British Academy of Management.
Ian has experience within the Australian Higher Education sector through visiting
positions at the University of Adelaide and Wollongong University where he has been a
guest Professor on two occasions. He has also been an international partner on two ARC
grants, researched in companies such as BHP and Ford (Australia) and been a regular
presenter of papers at ANZAM conferences. To complete the Australasian link, he
married his wife – Jane - in the Clare Valley in South Australia. Jane has also started
a new job at Monash, Clayton campus.
