“I chose Monash because of its reputation as a world class university. I’m aiming for a quantitative role in my business career, so my primary goal was to equip myself with practical skills in econometrics and statistics before starting my formal career.
“Monash is the only university in Australia offering a postgraduate applied econometrics course and I developed confidence in communication as well as research and practical skills.
“The thesis was the most challenging component for me, but the entire process – learning new theory, applying it to a practical business situation and presenting it publicly – was absolutely worth it. I also had the opportunity to become a part-time tutor in my final semester, which was a unique and valuable experience.
“The company I currently work for provides investors with statistical market risk models, performance and risk analysis and portfolio optimisation and construction tools, which are all based on rigorous statistical and econometric theories. Therefore an excellent quantitative background is essential to employees at APT. The course assisted me in understanding APT’s models and products. My current duties include risk and performance consulting, programming and client support.”
