Managing candidature
- Re-enrolment
2012 Re-enrolment period is between 10 OCTOBER 2011 to 21 NOVEMBER 2011. To re-enrol, students need to log on to WES by using their authcate username and password. After this period a late re-enrolement fee of $281 applies. Please do not leave your re-enrolment to the 21 November as WES-access problems will not result in the waiving of the late fee.
All research degree students are required to complete an Annual Questionnaire online in order to gain access to re-enrolment.
Those students who are required to enrol in a coursework unit in 2012 will need to do so by submitting a re-enrolment form. Please contact your department/centre for more information. If you have any problems with your re-enrolment, please contact the Faculty Research Office.
- Annual Questionnaire
The Annual Progress Report has been replaced by an Annual Questionnaire. All research degree students have to complete and submit it online before they can re-enrol.
- Confirmation of candidature
All probationary candidates are required to present their work in progress to a review panel and submit a confirmation of candidature report at the end of their probationary period which is 12-month (full time) or 24-months (part-time) after enrolment.
- Candidature milestones
In addition to the existing confirmation of candidature, mid-candidature review and pre-submission seminar are introduced by the University as new milestones to monitor the academic progress of doctoral students. They are compulsory for all doctoral students enrolling from 1st January 2010. In the Faculty of Business and Economics, all doctoral students who enrolled in the faculty prior to 1st January 2010 are encouraged to undertake mid candidature review and pre-Submission Seminar as they will benefit students by providing a more formal review of their progress following confirmation and their readiness to submit their thesis. The new milestones will be managed by each academic unit and the Faculty. Students will be contacted by their academic unit in regard to the arrangements of their seminars.
Mid-candidature review - must take place between 21 and 27 months of full-time equivalent candidature following commencement of candidature. Students are required to make an oral presentation at a departmental seminar and submit a paper which demonstrates progress since confirmation of candidature and also a progress report of minimum 1000 words. Mid-candidature review report form.
Pre-submission seminar - should take place no more than 6 months (full-time equivalence) prior to final submission of the thesis. Students are required to present a public seminar to a critical audience which includes a designate review panel and submit a thesis summary and chapter outline to the review panel prior to the seminar.
