Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

PhD candidates are required to carry out an independent program of research under the supervision of an experienced member of the Faculty's academic staff. Candidates are required to submit an original thesis that makes a major contribution to the discipline by way of new knowledge. The maximum period of candidature is 4 years (full-time) or 8 years (part-time). Enrolment can be by on-campus (internal) at any of the Faculty's campuses (except South Africa) or distance (external) mode.

Applications may be submitted at any time of the year to the Faculty Research Office.

All applicants are urged to contact the relevant HDR coordinator in their proposed department/centre of enrolment PRIOR to submitting their application in order to discuss their proposed research project and the availability of appropriate supervision in that department/centre.
