Writing Seminar for Research Degree Students

Time: 9.30 and 1.00pm

Venue: Caulfield campus (Venue will be confirmed upon registration)

This seminar is aimed at assisting research degrees students to complete the writing work required for their thesis more efficiently and effectively. The following four topics will be covered:

• Managing documents (setting up documents; word styles; language)
• Thesis sections (what is expected in each of them)
• Writing issues (modes of writing; problems)
• Abstract

The seminar will be conducted as an open discussion - questions, examples, issues are welcomed and will suit those at the writing up stage.

Places at limited and will be allocated on a 'first come, first served' basis, so if you are interested please register early.

About the presenter

Carla Taines has worked in the publishing industry for more than thirty years. While she has experience in just about every type of book, she specialises in developing and editing academic material. She has worked on projects from many academic presses, and edits and manages several academic journals (including Asia Pacific Journal of Human Resources) on an ongoing basis (and Asia Review of Accounting 2003-06). She has been involved in running writing for publication workshops for academic staff and HDRs since 1996 (at LaTrobe, Melbourne, Monash, Deakin and Victoria universities), and was involved for several years in developing and teaching an editing and publishing subject in the English Department at the University of
