CONDITIONS
Applies to
This information applies to students who are enrolled in graduate and undergraduate course-work programs managed by the Faculty of Business and Economics who wish to apply for special consideration for the final examination in a unit. Students in courses managed by other faculties should contact that faculty for details of their special consideration application process.
Within Semester Assessment
The Faculty of Business and Economics requires the special consideration form to be used for examinations only. To apply for extra time within a semester students are required to use the application for extension of time for submission of an assessment task form.
Eligibility
A student whose work during a teaching period or whose performance in an examination or other assessment has been affected by illness or other serious cause may apply for special consideration.
To apply
Complete the Faculty of Business and Economics application form which can be downloaded at the bottom of this page.
You must lodge your original application and supporting documentation and evidence with the student administration office on your home campus no later than 48 hours after your last scheduled examination. The Faculty of Business and Economics does NOT require an additional copy as instructed on the application form. The application cover page will be stamped and returned to you as your receipt. Supporting documentation
For applications based on medical/psychological grounds, the Professional Practitioner Statement section on the Monash special consideration application form MUST be completed by the relevant professional practitioner. Evidence will only be accepted from professionals who are registered with a professional body, such as social workers, medical practitioners, lawyers, and psychologists.
Note: access to sensitive personal information in these applications is restricted to designated faculty personnel.
Outcome
Your application will be assessed by the Group Manager, Student Services and approved by the Board of Examiners. If approved, the special consideration may be granted in the form a deferred examination. If a deferred examination is granted, this will be shown as a Def grade in your examination results. Students who are granted a deferred examination should check the examinations timetable for details.
Late applications
The Associate Dean Education may accept a late application for special consideration in exceptional circumstances where they are satisfied that a student was, due to circumstances beyond their control, unable to make an application by the required date.
Late applications for special consideration will NOT under any circumstances be lodged or accepted after the results in the unit have been formally published by the university.
Exceptional circumstances generally require you to have been physically unable to make the required 48 hours after the last scheduled examination deadline or any time since then. Failure to put in a Special Consideration application because you expected to pass will never be accepted as a justification. Also, given the wide distribution of this policy, claiming to not know about the deadline will not be accepted as a justification for late applications. Late applications will not be considered without full justification.
