Conversion from full-fee place to a CSP place

Students are unable to apply to transfer from a full-fee paying place to a CSP place. The faculty will consider your results in January and will offer some CSP places but only to those who meet the following specific criteria:

  • Have completed a minimum of eight units (48 points) of which six units (36 points) must have been completed in the faculty, and
  • if you have achieved an average mark of 65 per cent or above in Faculty of Business and Economics units.

This process only occurs once a year at the beginning of each year.

Course discontinuation

Most students have available to them the facility to discontinue course enrolment via WES.

Other who wish to to withdraw from all units and end your course enrolment, must complete and lodge an Enrolment Amendment Form, indicating a 'total discontinuation from course'. Enrolment Amendment forms are available from the Student Administration Office on any campus. Alternatively, you may submit notification of your discontinuation in writing, addressed to the Student Administration Office on your home campus.

NOTE: Please check the deadlines for submitting forms as discontinuation of a course has implications for the refund of fees.

Enrolment load

Your enrolment load is determined by the number of credit points you are enrolled in each semester. A full-time on campus student will normally be enrolled in 24 credit points per semester (i.e. four units). However, you may enrol in units totalling up to 30 points per semester (five units), provided that the total for first and second semester does not exceed 54 points (9 units), and normally provided that a credit average is achieved in both the most recent 24 points (four units) of study and in the previous semester of study.

You may enrol in up to 12 points (two units) in summer semester and winter semester combined, with no more than one unit in winter semester. In exceptional circumstances, this may be increased to 18 points (three units) in summer and winter semesters combined but with no more than 12 credit points taken over winter semester, provided that a credit average is achieved in both the most recent 24 points of study and in the previous semester of study.

In order to study summer or winter units under the Monash Abroad Program, students must have a minimum of a credit (60% or more) grade average in Monash results.

The provisions regarding the credit average may be varied at the discretion of the course director.

An enrolment load of less than 36 credit points per year is defined as a part-time study load.

International students - ESOS information

International students not enrolled in 24 credit points in both Semester 1 and Semester 2 may be in breach of Student Visa requirements and may be reported to DIMA. An enrolment of less than 24 credit points in either Semester 1 or Semester 2 must be discussed with your Faculty.

Overloading of credit points

On-Campus students may enrol in units totalling up to 30 points per semester (five Business and Economics units) provided that the total for first and second semester does not exceed 54 points (nine units). A credit average must also be achieved both in the most recent 24 points of study and the previous semester of study to qualify.

The usual load for Off-Campus Learning students is 12 points per semester (2 units). A credit average must be achieved in both the previous semester of study and the most recent 12 points of study to qualify for an overload.

Under special circumstances you may be permitted to overload should the extra unit lead to course completion at the end of semester.

Cross-faculty unit enrolments

Subject to the requirements of your course, you may select as electives any units from another faculty across the University. It is your responsibility to ensure that electives chosen meet the requirements of your course. It is your responsibility to check unit details and any special requirements with the host faculty.

Complementary study

Cross-institutional enrolment occurs when a student is enrolled for an award program at Monash, but wishes to enrol in a unit(s) at another institution and have the unit(s) credited towards the Monash award program.

Undergraduate students will not be given approval to take units solely for the purpose of accelerated course progression nor can they replicate units available at Monash, or substitute for Monash units.

You should not take intermission if you wish to study a unit in your course at another institution. Instead you must apply for Complementary study. Application forms are available from the Student Administration Office on any campus or download at Student Services Form Page at the following address:

Intermission

Applying for intermission (leave of absence)

Most students will be able to apply for intermission via WES. Others will be referred to their Student Administration Office on their home campus.

If you are experiencing difficulties with your studies or you wish to take time off from study for any reason, you can apply for intermission (leave of absence) for up to a maximum of one academic year at any one time. When granting leave the faculty reserves students a place in their course. The total period of approved leave is counted in the time limit for completion of the course (ten years). If you are not re-enrolling for 2010 and intend to intermit your course, your application must be received by 23 November 2009. If you do not re-enrol or intermit your course, your enrolment will be considered lapsed.

Credit for studies undertaken elsewhere during the period of intermission will not be credited to your course.

If you are on a conditional enrolment you will be unable to seek intermission.

Students unable to apply for intermission via WES may download the Application for Intermission form from:

http://www.adm.monash.edu.au/service-centre/forms/

Please note:

  • If you are on intermission for semester 1 only, you are still required to enrol in units for semester 2.
  • If you wish to extend your intermission, you must re-apply; failure to reapply for intermission will result in you losing your place in your course.
  • Bachelor of Accounting students who take intermission may be required to relinquish their scholarship.

Students returning from intermission (leave of absence)

If you are returning to study after a period of intermission (leave of absence) you need to amend your enrolment via WES.

Transfer to another course

To transfer from one undergraduate course to another within the Faculty of Business and Economics, you must complete a Course Transfer Application form, available from the Student Administration Office on any campus. The closing date for course transfer applications for the Faculty of Business and Economics is 30 October 2009. No late applications will be accepted after 30 October 2009.

If you wish to transfer to a course managed by another faculty you should contact that faculty for further information and an application form. Application dates vary from faculty to faculty.

You may transfer between Business and Economics courses up to halfway through your course, provided satisfactory performance has been maintained and unit requirements have been met. Course Transfers will not be offered to students who are near course completion in their present course.

Please note: a successful course transfer will be subject to having satisfied the relevant mathematics prerequisite and is also subject to the availability of places in the course you wish to transfer to.

If your course transfer application is successful, enrolment in the new course will be subject to whatever fees, course structure and conditions apply to that course at the time of enrolment.

Pending the outcome of a transfer application, you should re-enrol in your current course during the re-enrolment period on WES. Enrolment in the new course will take place in conjunction with the enrolment process for commencing students early in 2010. You will be contacted by the Faculty regarding your enrolment arrangements.

The Course Transfer application form is available at:

http://www.adm.monash.edu.au/service-centre/forms/

Unit failure

If you have failed a unit you can still use WES to amend your enrolment.

If you have failed any units which are pre or co-requisites for the upcoming semester, the enrolled units will be shown on WES as 'INVALID' this means that you are not enrolled in the unit. You must therefore select replacement units.

Please remember that you must re-allocate for classes after any change to your enrolment.

If you fail only the last unit of your study you may be eligible for Special Assessment. Contact the Student Administration Office on your home campus for further details.

Pending outcomes

If you are subject to any of the following conditions: You must:
Applying for special consideration in Semester 2, 2009 Re-enrol assuming a pass in the unit(s)
May be subject to Academic Progress review Re-enrol assuming successful outcome
Enrolled in summer units that are prerequisites Re-enrol assuming a pass in the unit(s)
