Development Research Unit (DRU)

The Development Research Unit (DRU) comprises a group of academics in the Faculty of Business and Economics at Monash University with common research interests in development. The Unit has two major research programs:

Asia-Pacific Research Program
Includes research into various economic and social issues in the Asia-Pacific region, including China, South Asia, South-East Asia, and some Pacific Island countries.

Development Microeconomics Research Program
Includes research into important issues in the microeconomics of development, with a particular emphasis on micro-econometric analysis and on experimental economics.

The Unit aims to:

  • foster quality, internationally recognised research and postgraduate research training in areas of development economics and development studies
  • build a level of research expertise in particular issues around development in the Asia-Pacific Region
  • develop research partnerships with organisations in the development sector, with a view to seeing our research endeavours translate into practice.

In early 2009 the Unit was merged with Monash’s Asian Business and Economics Research Unit (ABERU). Some past events and publications highlighted on this website refer to ABERU.

The Development Research Unit is a collaboration between Monash University and World Vision Australia.
