DRU/ CoPS/ Dept of Economics Seminar
DRU/ CoPS and Dept of Economics hosted a seminar on Wednesday 6th May, 2009 at the Clayton Campus. The speaker was Assoc. Prof. Lisa Cameron, Director, Asian Economics Centre, Dept of Economics, University of Melbourne. She presented a paper titled 'Mistargetting of Cash Transfers, Social Capital Destruction and Crime in Indonesia. For further information please click on the link above.

2009 Higher Degree Research (HDR) Student Workshop
International Business Research Group (IBRG) and Development Research Unit (DRU) staged a one-day HDR workshop at Caulfield campus. 14 Students presented their research in a stimulating inter-disciplinary environment. Students have received a one page summary feedback for their work. Also they have received awards on varous aspects of their research and presentation. DRU, CoPS and Dept of Economics Seminar
On 8th April, 2009, DRU sponsored a seminar along with the Centre of Policy Studies and the Department of Economics. The speaker was Professor Lee Alston, University of Colorado at Boulder, USA and Research Associate at NBER, USA. His paper was titled: De Facto and De Jure Property Rights: Land Settlement and Land Conflict on the Australian, Brazilian and U.S. Frontiers.

"Social Inclusion: The Chinese and Italian Communities in Prato" Conference 2008
On October 27th, 2008 a one-day academic conference organised by Monash University Professors Russell Smyth from the Business and Economics faculty, Graeme Johanson, director, Centre for Community Networking Research, and Annamaria Pagliaro, director, Monash Prato. 2008 Higher Degree Research (HDR) Student Workshop
Students undertaking Honours, Masters and DBA/PhD programs in International business and Asian Economics and related fields (international management and international marketing) joined other HDR students and their supervisors at a research workshop.

"Building Bridges: The Chinese in Melbourne and Prato" Workshop 2008
On July 10, 2008 there will be an academic workshop on the "Chinese in Prato" jointly sponsored by the Asian Business and Economics Research Unit and the Centre for Community Networking Research. The workshop will be at the Monash Caulfield Campus.

Australian Institute of International Affairs Presentation
On February 27th 2008, Russell Smyth addressed the Australian Institute of International Affairs on the topic 'China's Huge Socioeconomic Challenges'. His presentation slides can be viewed at the above link.

Financial Development and Economic Growth Conference. 4th April 2008, 9am-6pm
The Financial Development and Economic Growth conference was held in Monash Caulfield campus on Friday April 4, 9:00am - 5:30pm. The conference was organized by Dr. James Ang. ABERU and the Department of Economics provided generous financial support for the conference. The focus of the conference was very specific, and it was therefore a great pleasure to see such as a good show-up of presenters and audience.

17th Biennial Conference - 'Is this the Asian Century?'
The Asian Association of Australia will be holding the 17th Biennial Conference on 1-3 July 2008 at Sebel Albert Park Hotel, Melbourne. This conference will bring together specialists to assess trends in Asian law, medicine and health, science, ethics/human rights, politics, regional security, economics, culture, religion, environment, media, the performing arts and many other fields.

Building Communities: 'The Chines in Prato'
On November 8 and 9, 2007, members of ABERU attended a workshop at the Monash Centre in Prato titled ‘Building Communities: the Chinese in Prato’. The workshop, which was attended by 60 academics, community leaders and political representatives from Australia, China and Europe, was funded with grants from the Monash Institute for the Study of Global Movements and International Strategic Initiatives.

Seminar hosted by Monash Asia Institute & Social & Economic Interface Research Network
On the 19th October 2007, MAI and SEIR NET will be hosting a Seminar featuring Professor Wen Li from the Political Studies Division at Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. Professor Wen Li will be presenting "The emergence of neo-nationalism and its influence on Chinese foreign policy".This talk will examine in greater depth neo-nationalism in China today, and its impact in north-east Asia and the region more generally.  

International Metropolis Conference
In October 2007, the annual International Metropolis Conference will be held for the first time in the Southern Hemisphere – in Melbourne, Australia. Hosted by Monash University and the Australian Multicultural Foundation in association with the Federal Government, the Victorian State Government and the City of Melbourne, Metropolis International 2007 is an internationally significant research-based conference that focuses on immigration and settlement issues. Metropolis 2007 will feature Australian and global leaders and officials, renowned academics and key stakeholders who will gather to examine migration, economic growth and social cohesion. The Conference will bring together some of the world's key migration and diversity experts to discuss key issues and, in particular, to examine: the patterns of current and future migration, the scope for reinforcing its favourable impact on economic growth and strengthening social cohesion.
