Advisory Board - Terms of Reference
The Tourism Research Unit (TRU) Advisory Board has been established in order to engage with tourism stakeholders who are widely recognised in their fields of expertise, and who are willing to assist the TRU in its strategic vision to be recognised as a leading tourism research centre and its mission to encourage, facilitate, conduct and disseminate quality research that contributes to the knowledge base of tourism and meets the needs of stakeholders.
1. Membership of the TRU Advisory Board
The TRU Advisory Board will be chaired by the Director of TRU and include at least five external members.
2. Terms of Reference
The TRU Advisory Board will:
- Explore research needs that could be met by TRU;
- Develop and strengthen links with tourism stakeholders primarily for research, but also for learning, and commercial activities;
- Facilitate cross-fertilisation and explore collaboration across organisations;
- Act as a voicepiece, advocate and disseminator of TRU research to industry, including research in which Advisory Board members are not necessarily active partners;
- Ensure that research effort is balanced to capture triple bottom line accountability;
- Act as a lobby group for recognizing the importance of including industry “impact” in the new Research Quality Framework (RQF).
3. Terms of Appointment
Appointment will normally be for three years.
4. Meetings
The TRU Advisory Board will meet at least once per year at a time and place to be determined.
5. Costs
TRU will meet reasonable costs associated with attendance at meetings.
