2006

Tourism and Media Conference
28 November - 1 December 2006

The second International Tourism and Media Conference, jointly hosted by Monash University, La Trobe University and the University of Otago, was held in Melbourne, Australia during Nov-Dec 2006. The conference reflected upon the broad relationship between tourism and the media and is organised to develop this exciting field of tourism research.

The aim of the conference was to move knowledge forward through the presentation of refereed papers, working papers and discussion that will lead to further research. Sessions will be of sufficient length to facilitate collegial communication, interaction and collaboration, with opportunities for group and individual discussion and debate.

Symposium on Quality Ecotourism Experiences 9 December 2005

Along with the Victorian Network of the Sustainable Tourism CRC, the Monash Tourism Research Unit hosted a very popular symposium covering a wide range of topics connected with developing, defining, delivering and sustaining quality ecotourism. The symposium was attended by over 70 participants and featured a number of board members of The International Ecotourism Society (TIES) presenting real-world examples and case studies, facilitating debate and discussion and workshopping key issues. The event was aimed at staff and managers in the ecotourism and nature-based tourism industry as well as those working in government, NGOs and ecotourism education.
