Millions of Indian visit sacred sites such as pilgrimage centres in India . While this kind of visit ranges from a traditional pilgrimage to more modern religious tourism, the pilgrimage centres themselves are subjected to heavy pressures of visitors. This research attempts to understand environmental issues in such places and how this kind of travel affects the physical environment of the place through a case study of the regional sacred complex of Braj in North India .
